THE CD MEXICO WAS NOT READY FOR...MARÍA JOSÉ (EX-KABAH)/ EL DISCO QUE MÉXICO NO ESPERABA...MARÍA JOSÉ (EX-KABAH)
The reason why I call María José's album the "CD Mexico was not ready for" is because Mexico is not ready for Spanish hip hop. Even reggaeton caught on late. Maria Jose aka La Josa's CD is really good and the best part about her first album is that she doesn't sound like anyone else. Instead of releasing a CD with a bunch of well sung ballads and slow songs (which she can do VERY WELL), something that Yuridia has already proved success in, she released a CD with a mix of pop, R & B, rock, and hip-hop. Take it as if you are listening to Fergie en español. It is amazing that her producer, Aureo Baqueiro (who began in the 80's writing songs for Timbiriche, and has produced for Ha-Ash, Lu, Alejandro Fernandez and Sin Bandera) can write and make music almost as good as or even better than the popular songs heard here in the U.S. However, it is a shame that U.S. Spanglish stations such as LA KALLE ignored her first single, "¿Quién eres tú?" being that the song is a biligual duet between La Josa and R&B artist, Trey Songz. The song is also immensely catchy.
La razón por la que nombro el disco de María José como el disco que México no esperaba, es por que México aun no esta listo para el hop hop en español. Hasta el reggaeton llego tarde y eso que muchos artistas que no son mexicanos le deben su carrera a México. Bueno, el disco de María José o mejor conocida como La Josa es bastante bueno y se mantiene igual de fresca y versátil como fue en Kabah. En vez de sacar un disco de baladas muy bien cantadas (cosa que La Josa hace MUY BIEN) así tipo Yuridia, María José se arriesgó y grabó un disco con mezclas del pop, R& B, rock y hip hop. Es como estar escuchando a Fergie, pero en español. Es impresionante que un productor mexicano, Aureo Baqueiro, quien comenzó en los 80’s escribiendo canciones para Timbiriche y ahora les produce discos a Alejandro Fernández, Sin Bandera y las Ha-Ash, pueda componer y producir música igual a o mejor que la que se escucha aquí en los Estados Unidos. Pero es una lastima que estaciones como LA KALLE hayan ignorado el primer sencillo de María José siendo que es un dueto bilingüe entre La Josa y el cantante Trey Songz. Además la canción es bastante pegajosa.

Honestly, I highly recommend this CD to anyone that wants to enjoy a good CD before going out to club or to a party. She will be releasing her second album in April which will consist of 80's covers (no folks, no Flans on this CD!) and the single is already on her myspace, so check it out. I wish María José the best, because she deserves it and is immensely talented. “Amante de lo ajeno” was recorded in Italy and produced by Loris Cerroni, who has worked with ov7, Alejandra Guzman and Paty Cantu. The album consists of 80’s covers, including songs of Rocio Banquells, Ana Gabriel and Daniela Romo. The first single is early 80’s singer, Melissa’s hit, “No soy una señora”. WARNING: the music sounds just like Katy Perry’s “Hot ‘N Cold” but the chorus is nothing like it. I am glad María José is not shying away from the style she defined in her debut album but check out the song anyways. As soon as the video comes out I will post it here on Conexion SF!
Honestamente recomiendo este disco. Ya tiene preparado su siguiente disco, “Amante de lo ajeno”. Fue grabado en Italia y producido por Loris Ceroni (Ov7, Alejandra Guzmán, Paty Cantú). El disco esta compuesto de covers de los 80’s de artistas como Daniela Romo, Ana Gabriel, Rocio Banquels entre otras y el primer sencillo es “No soy una señora”. Aunque suena la música igual a “Hot N’ Cold” de Katy Parry, me da gusto que María José aun siga el estilo de su primer disco y la verdad le quedo excelente su versión de este clásico de los 80’s. Disfruten de la canción, y cuando salga el video lo pondré aquí en Conexión SF!
